CHILDREN
Shri Iswaran and Smt DKP had 2 sons. Shri Sivakumar was a businessman and cricketer, who had
played for Tamil Nadu State but his passion for music made him a full-time
Mridangam vidwan. He learnt the art from Shri Palghat Kunjumani, disciple
of Shri Palghat Mani Iyer and started accompanying his mother on stage since he
was barely ten years old. Subsequently, Sivakumar married Lalitha, daughter
of the great Mridanga Chakravarthi Palghat Mani Iyer. She was a singer and
had the unique opportunity of learning music from her mother-in-law DKP and accompanying her on stage in concerts for several decades- an extremely
rare mother-in-law daughter-in-law combination indeed ! DKP's second
son Shri Lakshman Kumar, who has an excellent ear for music, learnt
Hindusthani Sangeeth when he was young though he did not choose music as his
career. He is also a tennis player who represented Tamil Nadu State in
Tournaments. He is married to Smt. Shantha, niece of the famous English
novelist Shri R K Narayan.
