Being a multifaceted-all rounder, capable of satisfying the connoisseur and the common man alike was the hallmark of Smt D K Pattammal. Her unparalleled repertoire helped her in succeeding in the various genres of Carnatic Music without compromising on the melody or classism. Be it the heavy and weighty krithi of Muthuswamy Dhikshithar's 'Thyagaraja Yoga Vaibhavam' or the soul stirring bhava laden krithi of Shyama Shasthri's 'Maayamma Ani ney' or the laya intricate Ragam Thanam Pallavi or a janaranjaka krithi like 'Eppadi Padinaro' by Sudhanandha Bharathiar or a power packed 'Thondru Nigazhnda' of Subramania Bharathiar she rendered with the same dedication and commitment which could transport the rasikas to a different plane all together. She was one of the first few ladies to lend her voice for playback in films as early as 1938-39.
